Changes in standards will impact direct mail design

Changes in design standards that were implemented this month could affect the layout of your next direct mail piece. The changes will enhance workflow by making sure pieces conform to automated mail handling equipment. If mail pieces do not adhere to the new design standards, there will be a significant increase in postage for mail pieces that do not qualify for automated rates.

  • The maximum size of a folded mail piece is now 10.5 x 6. (The maximum size for a letter remains 11.5 x 6.125.)
  • If the fold is parallel to the length of the piece, the final fold must be on the bottom.
  • If the fold is perpendicular to the length of the piece, the final fold must be on the lead edge
  • Two-three non-perforated tabs will be required depending on your mail piece design.

If you have questions on mail piece design, visit our website or email us a PDF and we will evaluate it for you.
